Fundametal Friday – Riveting Followup

The results are in and I agree, the new Friday Feature will be officially called “FUNDAMETAL FRIDAY.” And I have just posted my second Friday video. This particular video is the follow up for the questions from Tuesday’s video and the giveaway for Gwen Youngblood’s Riveting Essentials Kit.

While answering some of the questions I have come up withs some links for quick access to various tools and workshops.

Where can I purchase the kit?
Well, I have several on their way to me right now. You can back order them on my site and I will send it as soon as I get it, or you can purchase from Amazon (though they are a bit more expensive than me.)

Tool Time Tuesday – Riveting Essentials

I know it is Wednesday. But due to traveling last week and starting a new business this week with my husband has delayed things just a little bit. But here it is. You may remember I did a post and video a while back using the Riveting Essentials Kit from my friend Gwen Youngblood, well, she is giving away a kit to one lucky winner. Thanks Gwen.

Tool Time Tuesday – Can I run over it with my car?

I didn’t get my Friday Follow Up Post made, but I did do the video and had it posted on time. I had so many great questions from the Cupcake wrapper texturing video. So I tackled most of the questions about the rolling mill. People asked what kind of mill they should look for, why didn’t I sandwich the stack entirely, and more. So check out the video and see if I answer questions you may have regarding rolling mills and texturing.

TOOL TIME TUESDAY

One question that comes up a lot from people that haven’t made the leap for various tools, is can they use their vehicle to get the same results. Some are quite serious while others are truly curious. I had one of the truly curious ask me if the process of roll printing with the cupcake wrapper would yield the same result. So we decided to give it a shot and see what happens. The video is super short, check it out.

My girls had so much fun rolling over this that they wanted to do more. So our family channel features what happens when you roll over other items. Our new feature is called – “Let’s Run Over It.” It will be filled with lots of fun things. 🙂 Check it out and subscribe if you want more Crazy Muir Mania Antics. It is time!!!! My Craftsy Class will be Live 5/31.

If you are one of my faithful readers, then you know how busy it has been for me10612_Set_Stills_042_retouched_10612 lately, as shown by the scarcity of my blog posts and videos lately. This year alone I have been to Texas twice, Las Vegas, Tucson and Colorado, and I am returning to Las Vegas this week for the JCK show where I will be working with Pepetools and Otto Frei. It seems I have not had more than 3 weeks between trips and a few of them were every other week for a little while. I have been teaching an intensive course at my oldest daughter’s school for the past week and a half. And all in the mix of traveling, we made the decision to put my middle daughter into a new school that is far more intense than the school she was attending. To say that I have had a lot on my plate would be a complete understatement. I am hopeful that things will settle down a little after the girls finish school on the 10th of June. However, that brings up a whole new 10612_Set_Stills_005_retouched_10612thing…. SUMMER BREAK.  Kids home all day. But I did tell them that they are all attending “Jewelry Camp” this summer. It is time to get my minions working for me. HAHAHA.

Back in March I flew to Denver, Colorado to film with Craftsy. They are a TOP NOTCH company. It was so much fun and very different to make a film with a crew and support team. It makes my little operation here in my home studio seem so … so… amateur? But no worries. I will continue to make my videos anyway. I have been working on a schedule to get things recorded and out on a much more regular basis.

Instructor Badge

Well, the time has come and my Craftsy video will be launched on Tuesday, May 31st. I am thrilled and they did a great job with the entire production. They are even offering a chance for YOU to win the class for free. All you have to do is go and visit this link to enter:  http://www.craftsy.com/ext/MelissaMuir_Giveaway

What is my class about? Well, using the hydraulic press of course! There are six sections to the video and multiple projects in each. The class is 2 hours long and full of great information.

10612_Set_Stills_012_retouched_10612People have asked me if I am going to make kits for people who do not have a press so they can still participate and make the projects without a press. Yes, I will. But it will be after I return from the JCK show.

I have also been asked if I make more money on the class if it is purchased through my link rather than just the Craftsy link. Yes. I do. So I would really appreciate it if you purchase through the link I will provide. In addition, I will offer a discount link on Tuesday when the class goes live.

Here are some of the fun projects I show you in the video:

Check back with me on Tuesday and I will give you the link for a great discount on the class.

YouTube Celebration Giveaway

Did you know that I hit my first goal of getting 10,000 subscribers on YouTube? Well, I did. Thank you all so much for your support. To celebrate I am going to be doing a HUGE giveaway. I have over $3,500 worth of amazing tools, supplies, classes and Gift Certificates to giveaway. I will be doing this in June after I return from the JCK show in Las Vegas. So stay tuned for the announcement on those. I will announce it here on my blog, in my email list, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Periscope.

Tool Time Tuesday – Removing and Smoothing Metal

Last night there was a discussion in one of my hydraulic press groups on FaceBook about removing the burrs left from cutting out metal shapes with some pancake dies. Of course, this also applies to any rough metal edges that may occur with any cutting process. I had mentioned that I use a belt sander followed by a medium abrasive wheel on my polishing lathe. This in turn, brought about even more questions. So I figured I would do what I always do, make a video.

The abrasive wheels I love to use work well with a polishing lathe without any special attachment. They slip right onto the tapered spindle. If you use too hard of pressure, you will blow through them quickly. But if you allow the tool to do the job, they will last quite a while. I use mine quite often and am able to make mine last at least a couple of months, if not longer. They are basically a compressed scotchbrite type of material. In addition to deburring the metal, they are also great for imparting a nice satin finish.

Speaking of videos, thank you to those of you that have subscribed to my YouTube channel. I finally reached over 8,000 subscribers. There are almost 1.3 million views with my videos being watched on average 35,000 times a month. Once I hit 10,000 subscribers I will do a massive giveaway. So please help me reach my goal. I would really like to do this giveaway by the end of the year. That is just 2 1/2 months to gain 2,000 viewers. It is lofty, but with your help, I can attain it. If you have found my videos helpful, I would really appreciate your help. If you haven’t already, please subscribe: www.YouTube.com/kcjewelbox. If you have already subscribed, please share on all the various media forums, with friends,s colleagues and other aspiring jewelers.

2016 Workshop Schedule

Stay tuned later this week as I will announce my 2016 traveling workshop schedule. I have some great places I will be visiting (including Texas, Tucson, and Las Vegas) and look forward to adding more. If you are interested in having me come to your shop or studio, let’s talk.

The Tucson Gem Show Is Right Around The Corner

I have finalized the dates for my workshops in Tucson. Some are starting to fill up. So if you think you will be in Tucson for the Gem Show, please consider taking a workshop with me. I promise it will be a lot of fun. All the workshops are in the evening from 5:30 – 9:30, so all the shopping will be done for the day. Each workshop is only $165 and includes everything. All you need to do is show up and have some fun. Most are hydraulic press related, but you don’t have to have a press at home to enjoy these classes. In fact, the components workshop would be a great one as you can come and make tons of components that can be taken back home and incorporated into your work.

And if you register for more than one workshop, I will refund $20 for each additional workshop you register for.

Tool Time Tuesday – Shears in the Studio

First off, let me tell you all THANK YOU for entering the giveaway for the mini hydraulic press from Potter USA. It was a great success, although, how can you not have a successful giveaway? Our winner was Lecia Woessner from Maryland. It is always so much fun to be able to  give away great tools. If you didn’t win, don’t worry, there are a few more in the queue that I am sure you will still want to check out.

In Addition, I still have room in my workshops in Tucson. Please check them out and consider hanging out with me for an evening or two at Potter USA. You won’t be sorry. You will leave with finished pieces and best of all, LOTS of inspiration. And, if you sign up for multiple workshops, I will take off $20 for each additional workshop.

You can register for workshops here: http://www.kcjewelbox.com/Workshops_c26.htm

I find it funny that questions from people seem to come in category waves. Lately, the questions are about shears in the studio, more specifically bench and guillotine shears and the difference between the two of them. I happen to have one of each in my studio. So I thought I would do a video showing the differences between them. I meant to make a really short one, but there was quite a bit of info, so it is just about 9 minutes long. But if you are considering purchasing one of these shears, you might just find this video helpful.

And yes, I know that this isn’t Tuesday. But sometimes when you are a mom, you just do what you can do when you can do it. And, I did do the filming and editing yesterday. It finished uploading this morning at about 1:00. Let me tell you, 6:00 came awfully early here at my house.

From My Home To Yours, Merry Christmas

We woke this morning to an actual White Christmas. We haven’t had that in a long time. Last year, all the snow melted two days before Christmas. That was a real bummer to my girls who received sleds and never got to use them. I think they might get some good use this morning. 🙂 It is only a couple of inches, but that is enough when  you are 8 and 4. We are still waiting for family members to come for breakfast and presents. My girls are dying. It is already after 9:00 am. I remember trying to wake my parents at 5:00 am trying to get them to let us see the wonders and magic that Santa had brought.

Thank you all so much for being a part of my year. I am really getting excited for this next year. I have a few national teaching opportunities that I have signed on for and you will be hearing about all of those coming up. I also have quite a few online workshops that will finally come to fruition. I am also really hoping to release the first section of my book soon. I have decided to release it in phases as all of it at once has turned out to be more of a task than I can tackle by myself.

No matter what you celebrate this time of year, I hope you find yourself loved, fed, warm and have peace within your heart. I thought I would share this musical number that Riley and I did last year. Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday season.

Remember to enter the giveaway for the Mini Hydraulic Press. I will be drawing a name on January 5th.

How About Another Amazing Giveaway?

Woah, things got really crazy the past couple of weeks. As I was getting ready to do the last giveaway for the Ring Bender my computer died. There is never a good time for your computer to die, but that really was the most inopportune time. In fact, I was actually in Indiana, with no children, and a full day to myself. I had to plans to spend the day knocking out a big section of my book that I had been working on. I was so dismayed when I opened up my laptop to find my screen covered in vertical lines. It looked like I was in jail.  Turns out it was the logic board. My husband is so wonderful to me that as soon as I got home we went right to the store where he bought me a desktop computer so that I could continue to work while the laptop was out for repairs. Early Merry Christmas to me. 🙂

Let’s give away a great tool.

Okay, now for the part you have all been waiting for.

Are you Ready?????

How about winning a MINI HYDRAULIC PRESS from PotterUSA

Potter USA MiniPress

That’s right! Kevin Potter has generously donated one of his new Mini Hydraulic Presses, valued at $325. The jack is not included. This giveaway is open to everyone. However, shipping is included only for those in the United States. If you live outside of the United States, shipping will be your responsibility. Even at that, it would still be a $325 savings.

I am doing this giveaway a little differently because in the past I have had to go through all the comments and copy and paste all the names and emails and select my winner from there. That was okay and all, but if I have a computer failure again….. well, let’s just say, I won’t be doing many more giveaways.

How do you enter? Just fill in your name and email address on this fun little form. By entering the giveaway you are giving me permission to add you to my email list and PotterUSA’s email list. You must confirm the subscription in order for your name to make it onto the entry form. Don’t worry, you can always unsubscribe if you wish. But this way, a computer will put all of your names onto a spreadsheet for me, easy peasy.

A little about the press:

  • The Mini Hydraulic Press is worth $325.
  • This MINI press is our smallest. JUST for pancake dies and silhouette dies.
  • Uses 8 ton bottle jack (not included).
  • Under 20 pounds.
  • Does not use bracelet pancake dies. Silhouette dies can be used with urethane, but NOT contained urethane.

Sign up here: ENTER THE MINI PRESS GIVEAWAY

Our winner will be announced on January 5th, that is in just two weeks.

Pepetools Superior Ring Bending Tool Winner!!!!

Thank you all for the entries. It sure is fun to be me sometimes. 🙂 I am so excited for the winner of this this fabulous tool. Christmas is about to be a whole lot brighter.

There were 250 entries total. I put each name into a spreadsheet, went to Random.org and had it select a number between 1 – 250.  The number that was selected is 153. The person whose name at that spot is AIMEE BIONDOLILLO!!!!

Congratulations Aimee. I am so happy for you.

I have finalized the dates for my workshops in Tucson and I will get those posted here shortly. But I am on my way out the door for a wedding reception, so it will have to wait for just a bit longer.

Oh, and I am NOT done giving away great tools. I have another great one to give away shortly. Keep watching here and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
